Can you describe how the financial aid process works and what admitted applicants can expect in terms of scholarships, assistantships, and loan guarantees?

The Kelley School’s tuition is among the most affordable of the top-ranked MBA programs in the United States. Moreover, we set a flat fee for tuition and guarantee it for two consecutive years. The application for admission is also the merit-aid application. No separate application is required. We review the records of all entering full-time MBA students, basing our decisions on academic merit, test scores, and professional work experience, without regard to financial need.

Kelley offers merit-based awards consisting of fellowships, scholarships, and graduate assistantships ranging in value from $5,000 to full-tuition (over two-thirds of our MBA students receive some form of merit-based aid). If students are interested in merit-based financial aid, he or she should apply for admission by our priority deadline. Need-based aid is offered in the form of student loans. Domestic students interested in the Federal Stafford loan program need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

International students are not eligible for Federal student loans, but are eligible for private loans. Most private loan companies require an international student to apply with a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to act as a co-signer in order to secure the loan.

What information would you like to share with applicants who would like to visit the campus?

Visiting campus is one of the best ways to get to know the Kelley community and the greater-Bloomington area. The Kelley School, Indiana University, and Bloomington, Indiana, form one of the most intellectually vibrant, culturally diverse, and exciting collegiate environments in the United States.

The university attracts a diverse population of students, undergraduate and graduate, from all 50 states and more than 130 countries. As a result, Bloomington offers an incredibly diverse cultural and entertainment scene. The city has the vibe and energy of an urban neighborhood, while the campus is a haven for serious study and intellectual and creative stimulation.

A visit to the Kelley School is a great way to learn more about the MBA Program. Visitors can meet with current students and a member of the admissions committee, sit in on a class, take a tour of the school, and get a clear idea of what it’s like to be an MBA student. While you can visit Monday-Friday, classes are only held Monday-Thursday. We encourage visits while class is in session.

Our full-visit program begins mid-September and ends in early April. You are welcome to visit the school before and after these dates, but classes will not be in session. What should students expect in terms of housing options?

Living off-campus in Bloomington is surprisingly affordable. Rents are reasonable, ranging from about $600 a month for a one-bedroom apartment to $1500 for a three-bedroom (compare that with $800 to $2,500 in an average city).

While more than 90 percent of the MBA students live off campus, there are several on-campus housing options. You’ll get a nine-month contract, meals that you don’t have to cook, and easy contact with other graduate students. Single students can have single or double rooms; married students can choose from efficiencies up to three-bedroom apartments. Eigenmann Residence Hall is an on-campus choice for graduate students. It’s air-conditioned and has in-room data jacks, cable television access, music practice rooms, a fax machine, and a specialty food shop.

Another option is an apartment in one of the university’s seven complexes. Clustered in a pleasant area not far from the Kelley School, each complex gives a choice of floor plans, from efficiencies to three-bedrooms. Your apartment will have cable television access, data jacks, and basic telephone service, and your building will have laundry facilities. The complexes have a computer cluster and a library, connected electronically to all the university libraries. Although it’s a reasonable walk from the apartments to campus, you can also take a university bus.

What industries and companies recruit the most students from Kelley?

Over 120 firms from a number of industries recruit on-campus at Kelley. In addition to employers who recruit on campus, students also have access to a wide network of individuals through the Kelley School Alumni Association and the Graduate Career Services representatives' recruiter contacts.
