Indian School of Business (ISB) Diary

We started in April, and it's been a roller-coaster ride since. The professors are world-class and the work-load out of this world.

A typical day begins with an 8:30 AM class. After two hours of intense class discussions, we get a half hour break to get ready for the next lecture. Another two hours of information exchange and we are ready for lunch. Post lunch we get some time to either sleep or to catch up on our emails. Then begin the team meetings to work on the group assignments. These meetings could go on until the wee hours of the morning. But that's not all. We also need to study for the next day's lecture/case discussion on an individual basis. And thus comes to an end a packed day.

In spite of having our hands full with academics, we try to squeeze out time for extra curricular activities. Some of us work out in the on-campus gym every evening, some play tennis or squash or one of the many other games in the sports complex within the campus, and some swim away their worries. Most of us are also active in club activities. For example, the photography club organizes sessions with reputed photographers; the Finance Club organizes mock investment games etc. Apart from this, we have many CEOs and others from the industry coming over to give talks.

Half of the course is already over and we are now in the electives term. It’s hard to pick the courses because there are so many good ones. We also have some India/Asia specific courses which will help those who wish to work in this part of the world.

There is so much learning going on that I can now speak authoritatively on any subject – Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship and so on. I understand the world better now, and can read the Wall Street Journal without getting bored! I have made lots of friends and learnt a lot from their experiences.

It's an experience one cannot forget in a hurry. And the best part is - it's all worth it.
